The mystery of love is greater than the mystery of death.Unknown

This memorial website was created to remember our dearest Doris Jean Daugherty Stanley who was born in Louisville, Kentucky on December 9, 1930 and passed away on December 25, 2006 at the age of 76. You will live forever in our memories and hearts.

Thank you to Robert Decherd and The Dallas Morning News for running this article about my Mother, Doris Stanley:

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/obituaries/stories/DN-stanleyobit_29met.ART.West.Edition1.3ead7c2.html

As many of you know, Doris had many visits to the Emergency Room over the past several years.  I, her daughter Sherry, had taken her on many of these trips to the hospital, and, what seemed to me to be just another routine trip where the Dr.'s would find nothing wrong again, I soon realized that this visit was very different and had turned into another matter completely and very, very quickly.

I don't know how my sister Lynn had the insight to get in the car and come down to Texas to help my mother, but luckily she did.  Lynn's daughters, Kelly and Colleen also came and we all were with Mom up until and through her death.

Doris had decided to donate her body to science.   Which is a wonderful example of her giving spirit and her true desire to always help others.  It is gratifying to know the contribution she has made will help in the education of young men and women devoted to the care of the sick.

Which now brings me to the present.  All of this has happened very quickly and to be perfectly frank, I have never known anyone who has left their body to science.  I am not even sure when the ashes will be sent to me when the research is through.   However, once they are, I will post it here and let family members know and we can all decide together where the ashes should be spread.

But, with no body to bury, and no ashes to be spread (at this time) and no funeral home to contend with, I have been a bit uncertain on what kind of memorial should be done.  I know I am not going to be making everyone happy with this decision, but with family and friends spread out all over the country and the expense of travel and the time taken out of people's lives, also personally knowing how Doris felt about things and on top of all of that I have also had to remember this is the Holiday Season for everyone, that is why I have decided to put up this site, to celebrate her life.  The Interent makes the world a smaller place and can bring people together very easily and really, she has gone on to a better place and nothing more can be done but to just celebrate her life..

So what I would like to ask everyone to do, is to celebrate her life in the way you believe she would have liked.  When her family and friends get together over the coming years, it would be nice for all of us to share some memories with each other about Doris.  Tears and sadness are O.K. for awhile, but I know she would like to see everyone getting on with their lives and being happy again.  I would also like to ask anyone who would like to leave a comment, a story or light a candle on here to please, please do so.  That is the reason I set this site up.  Was and Is to celebrate the life of Doris Stanley.

Also, if anyone has the desire to donate to the American Cancer Society in memory of Doris Stanley, here is a link that will take you to the American Cancer Society. http://americancancersociety.org/docroot/don/don_0.asp?from=hpbox

Thank you for visiting and understanding.  God Bless!
